Rush Limbaugh and Gwar

To anyone who only follows me via this blog I apologize. I've been trying to figure out how to word something without it sounding like a winy mess. Thanks to the Colbert Report/Daily Show and Rush Limbaugh I finally have it.

I have filed to run for Missouri's 133rd state legislative office instead of my  (mostly performance art) campaign against Billy Long. In announcing I wanted to make yet another critique of the media. I wanted to show you how they are responsible for a candidate like Billy Long. But the words failed me.
Rush Limbaugh made me realize my tone was all wrong. I can't take Limbaugh seriously, though maybe I should. To me he is the political equivalent of Gwar.
He is so over the top that I can't help but believe most of his audience knows what he is saying if fiction. The scary part should be that Republican candidates don't seem to be in on the joke. Gwar is funny because it is satire of the whole idea of being METAL. But Republican candidates seem to think that Limbaugh isn't an exaggeration. They think he is just saying what people actually believe but are too PC to say.
I would hope this isn't the case. I would hope fans of Rush see a kernel of truth in what he says and understand it to be just a kernel. Satire is about seeing the truth in something comedic. Because it is easier to make fun of something than explain it.
Mitt Romney is someone who doesn't see Limbaugh as satire. In response Limbaugh's rant calling Sandra Fluke a slut/prostitute, Romney said "Those aren't the words I would have used"
This is where my point comes in. Our media doesn't ask candidates like Romney or Billy Long questions to make them think about what they think. Romney should have to explain what the kernel of truth is that Rush Limbaugh was getting at with his tirade about this young woman. 
Romney's throwaway answer sounds like he agrees with the personal attack on Fluke instead of only agreeing that a church shouldn't have to pay for birth control. As a leader Romney should be volleyed questions that allow him to point out where the line between policy and satire are for people who don't see it.
He should be asked questions that allow us to see he actually understands what is going on in our culture and how to offer solutions to solve those issues.

CNN jumps the shark with the tea party.

After watching last weeks Tea Party Debate it became obvious to me that CNN has in fact jumped the shark. Or more accurately the Tea Party has and CNN has gone with them.
Because it seems obvious to me it makes it harder to explain but I think it comes down to a lack of DIRECT pandering. The candidates were definitely keeping the general election in mind in their answers. One would expect that at a Tea Party Debate republicans would pander towards Tea Partiers. The power of the Tea Party is defined on their influence in primaries but it looked to me like all the candidates were more afraid of giving Obama ammunition than they were of the Tea Party.
The reason I think CNN is going along with the Tea Party is that their credibility is starting to crumble in the face of an audience that wants news that reinforces their beliefs. Fox has Republicans, MSNBC has Democrats, and I think CNN sees the Tea Party as their niche. I could be wrong but the fact that they had a CNN debate on 9/12 and put Tea Party in the title seems telling. I don't watch CNN (other than GPS) so I don't know how extensive this Tea Party grab is on a daily programming but I do know that they had a Tea Party rebuttal when other networks were having airing the official Republican party rebuttal.

As Predicted

As I predicted Colbert PAC has begun creating ads that sarcastically endorse a candidate. The twist being that he's taken the satire up a level by endorsing Rick Parry instead of Rick Perry. Thus Colbert gets straw poll cred from both members of the Colbertnation and people who don't know how to spell Perry's name.

Colbert tips his hand

Satirist Steven Colbert has put a mirror up to our political system by creating a fundraising legal entity called Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow ("ABTT").
But what now?
I'm willing to now speculate that Colbert will be targeting Republican politicians with unflattering ads endorsing them. It will be like his 'better know a district' but more scathing than silly. For example if ABTT were to endorse Billy Long the ads would focus on how much work Mr. Long put in his single greatest legislative accomplishment- introducing an auctioneer recognizing holiday.
If I am correct Long will be testing the theory that there is 'no such thing as bad publicity'. I welcome Colbert's boldness though I see it ultimately blowing up in his face.
Any candidate that manages to be re-elected while Colbert thumbs his nose at them, will become Colbert's fault in the same way Nader is blamed for Bush v. Gore. The reason Colbert will be blamed is because Republicans are going to respond to the ads by saying it is a 'liberal attack'. Fox News already treats Colbert (and more so Stewart) as competing interest instead of comedy. The right will use this trend to paint Colbert with the 'libeal media' meme until he is completely saturated with it by the talking heads.
In other words when it blows up in Colbert's face it will be because the Democrats will make it gospel. If they (er I mean we) trivialize and simultaneously endorse Colbert's ads they will become an asset.  What do I mean by trivialize and simultaneously endorse? Easy when asked about Colbert's ads the response should be:
1) point out that Colbert is a comedian not associated with any campaign
2) chuckle
3) add that he raises some good questions (assuming he has).

It's that easy, but I worry that my party won't be able to pull it off.

Is it just me or did the Anthony Weiner (maybe sent picture of maybe his 'popped tent' to college girl) become a bigger story than the Arnold Schwarzenegger's (definitely had sex with and had definite reproduced with staff) story?
First of all: Liberal media my ass! 
Second: WTF?!
Media, let me explain ethics to you. If everything about "Weiner gate" is true- so what. The only possible story is if the girl sees it as an unwanted sexual advance and his Mrs. Weiner has a problem with it. The story is only relevant out side those three people if one of those three people were in someway harmed. Otherwise there was nothing really unethical about it AKA not newsworthy.
Meanwhile in California you have a politician that went behind his wife's back, perhaps intimidated his employee into having sex with him, and hid the offspring from the day of light for ten years. But Weinergate is treated as the real scandal. Ethically, what Arnold has definitely done is worst. It violated his contract with his wife. There seems to be some question as to how consensual the sex was (though I don't know why a rich famous guy would resort to intimidation), and the kid was denied a father. Now that is wrong. Wrong you dumb shits.

There is a question about what this says about the character of these two powerful men. It's a stupid question. All men are under the influence of testosterone. Drug addiction specialist and media darling Dr. Drew refers to testosterone as the most powerful drug. Men in positions of power actually have biological changes to reflect their alpha male status. A man's penis actually gets bigger when in a position of authority. Getting mad at a man for having a moment of weakness is like getting mad at your dog for eating out of the litterbox:
they should be scolded and discouraged but you shouldn't be surprised that they did it.


It is the nature of the beast. 


I've been watching the news wondering what is so important that there just isn't any time to talk about my campaign. And I am continually disappointed that what is covered is rarely any value. But whatever. If that is all the media cares about. I have a picture of my  penis and naked ass on my phone. If any member of the media (print, tv, web) want to see it- message me and I'll text it to you.
